1 .Tea Polyphenols


  Major applications: 1. As food additives: With its excellent anti-oxidation and antisepsis effects, tea polyphenols can be safely added into oil and oily foods to prevent fading and microbial growth, stabilize vitamins in the food, etc. 2. As intermediates of medicine: Large body of medical research and clinical trials have confirmed the following functions of tea polyphenols: Lowering blood sugar, treatingdiabetes, lowering blood fat, treating blood vessel and heart diseases, inhibiting cancer and mutation, as assistant measures for radiation treatments, anti-virus, anti-allergy, anti-radiation, preventing tooth cavities, detoxification and deodorization. 3. Application in health protection products: Tea polyphenols can be found in the following 10 categories of health protection products: (1) immunity modulation food; (2) blood fat modulation food; (3) blood sugar modulation food; (4) anti-aging food; (5) radiation blocking food; (6) weight loss food; (7) food with lead detoxification effect; (8) throat smoothing food; (9) facial beautifying food; (10) intestinal modulation food (microbe activity modulation / digestion improving /constipation relieving). Among these the weight loss food and blood fat lowering food are the majority. 4. Application in chemical commodity: Owing to the functions of deodorization, sterilization, pigmentation, etc., tea polyphenols have been widely applied in chemical commodity products such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and natural dyes. Organoleptic criterion: content of tea polyphenols ≤20%: powder, chocolate brown color; content of tea polyphenols ≤50%: greenish brown powder, with tea aroma; content of tea polyphenols ≤70%: powder, greenish yellow color; content of tea polyphenols ≥70%: powder, buff color. Chemical properties: Solubility: Readily dissolved in water, hydrated ethanol and hydrated methanol, bitter taste. Stability: Stable in pH3—8 environments, deteriorate under strong alkali, strong acid, illumination, intense heat and in contact with transitional metals. Safety evaluation: not toxic. Storage: keep in cool, dry and dark place. Storage lifetime: 2 years

2 .Theaflavins


  TFs have three major applications: 1. As intermediates of medicine: Numerous studies have found that TFs have effects of anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, scavenging or inhibiting free radicals. TFs are also shown to slowdown tumor spreading, decreasing blood thickness and preventing heart diseases. TFs are more efficient than tea catechins in regulating fat metabolism and improving blood circulation. TFs have also been shown to improve immune system function and have anti-inflammation effect. In addition, TFs can help repair the damage caused by smoking by increasing the bodys ability to degrade and eliminate the harmful components in smoking. Theaflavins and gallates are also inhibitors of HIV reverse transcriptase and other DNA and RNA polymerases. 2. As additives in food: TFs can be used as natural pigments and anti-oxidation agent in natural food. The anti-oxidation effect of TFs is higher than tea polyphenols, BHA and BHT. 3. Application in chemical commodity: Owing to the functions of deodorization, sterilization, pigmentation, etc., TFs have been widely used in chemical commodity products such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and natural dyes. Chemical properties: Solubility: Readily dissolved in water, hydrated ethanol and hydrated methanol, bitter taste. Stability: Stable in pH4-8 environments. Deteriorate under strong alkali, strong acid, illumination and intense heat. Safety evaluation: Innoxious. Storage: keep in cool, dry, dark place. Storage lifetime: 2 years
