Introduction
Minhang Economic and Technological Development Zone (MHETDZ), established in 1983, was one of the first 14 development zones approved by the State Council in 1986. It has a total development area of 3.5 km2.
Investment Climate
By the end of 2001, MHETDZ had attracted 154 projects, of which 28 were Fortune 500 corporations. Contracted investment value amounted to USD 2.1 billion.
By the end of 2000, Shanghai Minhang United Development Corporation (SMUDC) had invested about RMB 800 million (USD 96.7 million) in MHETDZ's infrastructure development.
About 25% of enterprises in MHETDZ have been awarded the ISO 14000 certification. The International Education Joint College of Shanghai Foreign Languages University and a branch of Shanghai Normal University were also set up within MHETDZ.
The 3.5-km2 land is fully occupied. In 2003, MHETDZ's GDP reached RMB 23 billion. Total import and export reached USD 503 billion (export valued at USD 450 billion).
