API 16A Hydraulic Ram Blowout Preventer
Brief Introduction to Ram Blowout Preventer:
The ram blowout preventers(BOP) is an integral part of well control equipment, featuring flexible closings and openings, easy operation, safe service and simple maintenance. The BOP our company produces are hydraulic dual-ram BOP, hydraulic single-ram BOP, manual dual-ram BOP, manual single-ram BOP, etc.
1. Application
The ram BOP is designed to seal off the tubular annulus or the well. With the ram BOP in the closed position, such operations as circulating drilling fluid, re-leasing pressure and killing the well can be performed by means of the spool beneath the BOP or pipelines connected to outlet of the BOP body. Under special circumstances, the ram BOP can shear the pipe in the hole to seal off the well. If the ram BOP has variable bore rams, it can seal off the annular space between the casing and the pipes whose sizes are at the minimum and maximum of the ram's range.
2. Structural Features
(1) Body Structure;
① Shape. The BOP has a body similar to square shape, having a vertical bore through which the pipes can pass and ram cavities in which the rams move in the horizontal direction
② Connection types. The BOP is offered with studded, flanged and hobbled top and bottom connections. The sizes of flanges, bolts, clamps and ring grooves all conform to API 16A.
(2)Ram structure
For dual-face ram, the upper face and lower faceoff the ram are exactly symmetrical. Various drilling tools with different sizes is only necessary to replace the semi-annular rubber sealing ring and ram compact, the others can be interchanged;
(3)Seal of Ram
The seal of the ram putting into effect of the packing wellhead must depend on four seals i.e. the seal between the top of the ram and housing, the seal between the fore-end of the ram and the pipeline, the seal between the housing and the side-gate and the seal between piston rod and the side-gate.
(4)Locking Mechanism of Ram
The manual locking device depends on manpower to rotate hand wheel to close or lock the rams. It shall be noted that the manual locking device only can be used to close rams. Be sure to make the manual locking de-vice return to the original position to unlock the rams before opening the rams with hydraulic pressure.
