Briefing
Ring-shaped components made of tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide (WC-Co) offer extremely high hardness and wear resistance. In the fields of mechanical seals and bearings, their service life is typically 5 to 10 times longer than that of steel components.
Detailed
Cemented Carbide Rings
The core of a cemented carbide ring consists of tungsten carbide (WC) particles embedded in a cobalt (Co) binder phase. Tungsten carbide provides extremely high hardness and wear resistance, while the cobalt phase imparts a certain degree of toughness and impact resistance to the material.
Its hardness can reach HRA 88–93, which is significantly higher than that of high-speed steel (HRA 80–85). Its wear resistance is 8 to 15 times that of quenched steel, making it particularly suitable for high-wear environments. Its compressive strength reaches up to 6,000 MPa, which is 2 to 3 times that of steel.
It exhibits good corrosion resistance and can withstand the corrosive effects of most acidic and alkaline media. However, its toughness is relatively low, and its impact resistance is inferior to that of steel; therefore, it is not suitable for applications subject to severe impact. It has a wide operating temperature range, maintaining stable performance from -200°C to 1,000°C.
