S52 is a steel agricultural roller chain from the [DIN 8189 S-type agricultural chains] — the European standard range found on balers and combines. S-type steel agricultural chains use solid pre-stretched rollers, are heat-treated, and interchange with the same size from other brands. Inside that family, S52 is the general-purpose size that turns up most often on European farms. It is wide-bodied, so identifying a used one starts with the width between the inner plates — the same pitch is also made in a narrower S51 and in further variants. That one measurement usually settles which chain you need.

S52 shares its pitch with the narrower S51 agricultural roller chain, so the two look alike until you measure the inner width. S45 uses the same inner width and roller as S52 but has a longer pitch, so it will not run on the same sprocket. S52F10 and S52L share the same pitch but differ in roller, plate, and strength, making this a specification question rather than a drop-in swap.
