Briefing

A self-contained inertial navigation trolley for high-precision geometry measurement without GNSS or track markers.

Detailed

Track Geometry System

Overview

The RCI INS employs a closed-loop fiber-optic gyro inertial measurement unit (IMU) integrated with high-resolution displacement sensors to capture all geometric parameters—gauge, superelevation, twist, alignment, profile, versine, and mileage—without reliance on external references. Its drift-compensated algorithm maintains ±0.30 mm gauge and superelevation accuracy over continuous runs up to 5 km. The system operates at 1.5–3 km/h, making it ideal for confined environments such as tunnels, viaducts, and station approaches where satellite signals are unavailable. Data is processed onboard and exported in standard railway formats for TQI calculation and adjustment planning.

Key Components

The GNSS‑based railway track inspection system comprises the following components:

● T‑shaped trolley – carries the core INS and the Sleeper Identification and Positioning System
● Inertial Navigation System (INS) – provides core attitude and position measurements
● Sleeper Identification and Positioning System – identifies sleeper positions and assists in localization
● Data processing unit – a ruggedized military‑grade laptop with integrated data acquisition and analysis software
● High‑precision total station (optional) – coupled with the system for maximum absolute accuracy
● Dedicated software suites – support ballastless track fine‑adjustment and ballasted track adjustment workflows
